PPPC Study Shows Lower Annual Sales Volume For ’09
A study just released by Promotional Product Professionals of Canada (PPPC) shows distributor revenue in 2009 was estimated to have decreased 21 percent to $3.1 billion, the first decline since the study began in 1993. The decline was offset somewhat by distributors achieving higher margins in 2009. Read more

Nutrition Watchdog Group Plans Lawsuit Against McDonald’s Over Happy Meals
A nutrition watchdog group will sue McDonald’s if the fast-food chain continues to use toys to promote Happy Meals. According to the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), using toys to lure small children into McDonald’s is unfair and deceptive marketing and is illegal under various state consumer protection laws. Last week, CSPI served McDonald’s with notice of its intent to sue, fulfilling a legal requirement of several states in which CSPI might bring the lawsuit. Read more

American Promotional Products Splits From Hyde Group
North Charleston, South Carolina-based distributor American Promotional Products (UPIC: App-Co) has split from its parent company, Southbridge, Massachusetts-based The Hyde Group, and will form a new company called the Affinity Group Inc. Read more

A new PPAI Pyramid Award, the PPAI Regional Creative Achievement Award, was announced at this year’s Leadership Development Workshop. PPAI Board Meets During Leadership Conference
The PPAI Board of Directors, Standing Committee chairs, Action Group leaders and staff liaisons met last week during PPAI’s Leadership Conference for a full-day volunteer training program. It was designed to help volunteer leaders become more familiar with the PPAI Strategic Plan and annual goals for the committees and action groups, provide training on Volunteer Central (the online network for communicating among volunteers), and discuss various forms of recognition and communications for volunteers throughout the year. KISS Teams Up With New Mexico Lottery
The rock band KISS is putting its brand on a lottery game by the New Mexico lottery. The KISS Scratcher ticket was unveiled last Tuesday. Two players will have the opportunity to win trips for two to attend the September 24 KISS concert at the Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix. The New Mexico Lottery estimates that a sold-out KISS Scratcher would generate approximately $900,000 in scholarship revenue for its college tuition-assistance program. |

PPAI Joins With NAM On Comments To CPSC
PPAI has signed on with a coalition in support of comments made by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding the definition of children’s products under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
