McDonald’s Voluntarily Recalls Glasses Despite Compliance With U.S. Regs
In what McDonald’s Corporation itself considers an overly cautious response, it chose to recall 12 million promotional Shrek drinking glasses last week because the level of cadmium in the decorative enamel paint was slightly higher than acceptable levels expected in new standards to be released soon by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. California Assembly Passes Ban On Plastic Grocery Bags
In what may be a boon to reusable tote-bag makers, the California State Assembly approved AB 1998 on June 3, which would require shoppers who don’t bring their own bags to the store to purchase paper bags made of at least 40 percent recycled material or buy reusable totes. The bill has moved onto the Senate floor, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has indicated he will sign it.

Taylor & Grant Raise Money For Heart & Stroke Foundation
Twenty-nine employees from Cheektowaga, New York, supplier Taylor & Grant (UPIC: FOODGIFT) took to the streets on May 28 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike fundraiser. Within three weeks, they more than tripled their goal by raising $4,980. Read more
