New Grant Program Business Opportunity For Promotional Products
The recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) includes a new grant program that could present a business opportunity for the promotional products industry. Grant money awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services will be used by small businesses to create workplace wellness programs. Promotional products could be used to help attract employees to these new wellness programs. Businesses eligible for the grant money are defined as having fewer than 100 employees who work 25 hours or more per week, and who do not currently have a workplace wellness program.

As details of the grant program become available, PPAI will provide information to members.

Disclosure Rules For Gifts To Physicians, Hospitals Start In 2013
The new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) creates some new reporting responsibilities for pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers. Starting in 2013, they must report to the federal government any “transfers of value” ranging from cash to travel to promotional products that are given to physicians or teaching hospitals.

The term “promotional product” is never used in the law, and the law excludes a transfer of anything with value of less than $10, unless the aggregate amount in a year exceeds $100. Educational materials that directly benefit patients or are intended for patient use also are excluded.

T-Shirts Aplenty
T-shirts have long been a staple in the world of promotional apparel, but there’s nothing conventional about this year’s crop of tees. Fabric, cut, design and color have been revamped, giving your clients an ever-expanding selection.

Is The U.S. On A Slow Boat To China (While The Rest Of The World Is On A Hydrofoil)?
Even though most economists agree that the federal bailout moved the United States away from the brink of an economic cataclysm, many Americans still feel the effort was a waste of money. We will never know what the world would be like today if our government had done nothing and left our future to the vagaries of market forces. Similarly, I find a parallel in how our industry addresses the rest of the world.
