Millennium Leather Anticipates Growth After Bankruptcy "The long-term outlook for our business is solid, based on a number of indicators--pent up demand to purchase by corporate America, a return of larger volume orders and the reappearance of some hibernating distributors," says Kahan. "As a result, we are projecting a 15-percent sales increase in 2010." Kahan adds that Millennium's vendors and the industry as a whole have been cooperative since the supplier company announced several weeks ago that it would restructure under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Drummer Shares Wellness Incentives Forum Insight This was one of several points emphasized by Sen. Tom Harkin last week at a Washington, D.C.-based wellness incentives forum. PPAI lobbyist Robert Drummer attended the event, during which Harkin said, "We don't have a healthcare system--we have a sick care system." "Harkin's transformative approach focuses on personal responsibility, government responsibility, corporate responsibility and community responsibility," says Drummer. "In addition to the business community, he wants public education (k-12) to '...put recess back into the curriculum' as well as offer healthy food choices in the cafeterias and in the vending machines." Chat One-On-One With PPAI's Product Safety Expert DeRagon is associate director of toys and premiums for STR, a leading testing facility, and she'll be on-site at PPAI Action Central, Booth #6103, to discuss product safety requirements and concerns with promotional products professionals. For more in-depth discussions in a large-group session, DeRagon will be participating in several professional development opportunities throughout the week. On Tuesday, January 12, at 8 am, DeRagon and PPAI legal counsel John Satagaj will offer industry professionals practical guidance on what the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) means to their business in the session "CPSIA Compliance: What You Need To Know." Later on Tuesday, DeRagon and Anne Lardner, PPAI senior manager of public affairs, will review deadlines and requirements for product safety compliance in the 1:30 pm session "CPSIA Product Testing: 10 Things You Must Do Before 2/10/2010." To schedule a one-on-one session at PPAI Action Central, contact Anne Lardner. To review all education sessions and to register for the show, visit www.theppaiexpo.com. ppai law
CPSC Hosting Product Safety Workshop This Week Anne Lardner, PPAI senior manager of public affairs, will be attending the workshop as a representative of the Association, and PPAI members are also encouraged to attend. Focus Remains On Changing Legislation Language The language in this bill that affects the promotional products industry is identical to the version that was presented by the Senate Finance Committee earlier in the fall. Members are encouraged to contact senators and let them know of the legislation's anticipated impact on the promotional products industry. At www.ppailaw.org, users will find prompts to help them send e-mails and call senators, as well as scripts to use. Members who follow this process are asked to share their experience with Anne Lardner, PPAI senior manager of public affairs, especially if they receive a response. Advertising Group Backs Lawsuit Over New Tobacco Legislation The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act was passed earlier this year and restricts certain types of advertising in order to minimize childrens' exposure to tobacco marketing. The ANA has said it supports the law's intent to prevent tobacco use by minors, but believes restricting advertising violates First Amendment rights. Among the bans listed in the law: the use of promotions and promotional items containing the name or logo of a tobacco product. |

PhotoStamps Aids Cancer Research, PhotoStamps donated 5,000 sheets of custom stamps to the Run For Her fundraising event, which advocates and raises money for ovarian cancer research in partnership with Cedars Sinai Hospital. PhotoStamps produced custom sheets for the runners' registration packets and made the image available to the organization so its constituents could order additional sheets. "PhotoStamps has always sought out partnerships with not-for-profit organizations," says CEO Ken McBride. "We've done programs such as Toys for Tots and the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation." Proforma's Holiday Perks Featured On Cable Show "Our support center team worked hard this year--maybe harder than ever," says Muzzillo. "We started 2009 out with some significant concerns, we worked hard and we were committed as an organization not to eliminate any positions or cut any pay despite the challenges. Our confidence paid off and our hard work paid off." While Proforma did not give bonuses to its employees, the company is providing such perks as VIP parking access, ice removal for employee vehicles and a monthly breakfast. Muzzillo says the acts of kindness aren't a replacement for raises and bonuses but a celebration and 'thank you' for getting through Proforma's toughest business year in 30 years. "We are poised to have our best year ever, by far, in 2010," he says. |
