Canadian Promotional Products Group Names New President
Promotional Product Professionals of Canada (PPPC) has announced the appointment of Edward Ahad, B.Sc., as PPPC's new president and CEO, effective January 4, 2010. He fills the top staff position vacated by Donald O'Hara in September.

Ahad has worked for Pointe-Claire, Quebec-based supplier Souvenir Avanti Inc. since 1990. He also served on the Quebec Chapter of PPPC from 1996 to 2001 as well as the National Board of Directors from 2002-2008, where he served as chairman in 2007.

"Ed brings many years of experience in this industry with him," says Lynda Gallant, CAS, chair of the PPPC National Board of Directors. "His proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment, as well as his desire to tackle new challenges, will serve Ed well as he begins this next phase of his career."

Promotional Products Sales At Nearly $4 Billion In Canada
A Promotional Product Professionals of Canada (PPPC) study showed industry sales in the Great White North have reached $3.97 billion a year, growing an average of seven percent every year for the past two years despite a struggling economy.

The increase is attributed in part to the effectiveness and flexibility of promotional products, says PPPC Chair Lynda Gallant, CAS.

"While this represents a drop from the 13 percent compound annual growth rate our industry has enjoyed for the past 15 years, it is still indicative of the growing popularity of promotional products as effective marketing and communications vehicles," says Gallant. "We are very satisfied with this indicator, considering the overall performance of the Canadian economy."

PPAI's Tracking Label Database Can Help Ensure CPSIA Compliance
PPAI created and launched a free tracking label database earlier this year for all UPIC subscribers to help them keep and share records as required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).

The tracking label database provides a place to store information such as the source of the product, manufacturing date and batch or run number, and it provides suppliers with a simple URL to print on their products.

For more information and to access the database, visit www.ppai.org and click the Product Safety Page under Members/Business Management.

PPAI Study Affirms Promotional Products' Effectiveness
A recent consumer study designed and conducted by PPAI revealed that 94 percent of respondents could recall a promotional product they'd received in the past two years and 89 percent could also recall the advertiser.

Respondents shared the following about promotional products and their value:

• 83 percent like receiving a promotional product with an advertising message
• 48 percent would like to receive promotional products more often
• 73 percent think they were given a promotional product to promote a service/product
• 69 percent generally keep the promotional product
