"During the meeting, BIC managers highlighted the issues surrounding potential bans of promotional products across the country as well as keeping jobs in Florida," notes David Saracino, director of sales for BIC Graphic North America. PPAI Introduces Tracking Label Database During Webinar Beginning August 10, the tracking label database will be ready to house the basic information required for tracking labels, which manufacturers and importers of children's products must have starting August 14. Labels must contain such information as the source of the product, manufacturing date and sometimes batch or run number. This tool will be available free of charge to UPIC subscribers. It will consist of a search page for end users, a data entry page for suppliers, an administration page in UPIC for suppliers to manage all uploaded product information and a back-end SQL database to house the data. And, rather than printing the information on a product, suppliers can instead print a URL address that points to the information in the database. This option may prove beneficial for supplier of products with small imprintable areas, such as writing instruments. "We encourage all supplier companies to contribute data even if they've developed their own tracking process," says Anne Lardner, PPAI senior manager of public affairs. Lardner adds that there are advantages to having a central database for this particular initiative, including saving time and money on the supplier side and the serving as a single information source that can be published for end users. "This was one of the most informative I have attended and as a supplier I appreciate the steps PPAI has taken to enable an online facility for our use. It is truly a great association value," says Heather Garner of Foamworx. A tracking labels tutorial will be posted on the PPAI website and its availability announced soon, and two more webinars on the subject will be held prior to August 14.
