In Memoriam: Glen R. Holt, MAS, CIP
PPAI lifetime member and former PPAI board member Glen R. Holt, MAS, CIP, passed away Friday in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 76. Holt’s career spanned 48 years in the industry, most recently as president of Fountain Hills, Arizona, business services provider Glen Holt International LTD (UPIC: glenholt).

Molenaar’s Jim Moore Moves Toward Retirement
Jim Moore, MAS, senior vice president of sales and marketing, at Wilmar, Minnesota, supplier Molenaar LLC (UPIC: MILINE), is moving toward retirement and starting a three-day work week, according to Bob Haskins, president of the company.

A new Maritz® Poll conducted by St. Louis, Missouri-based Maritz Research shows employees’ trust toward their workplace has taken a severe hit, with employees across all industry segments citing a lack of trust in not only senior leaders, but direct managers and co-workers.

CAPPA Develops Scholarship For Professional Development
The Corridor Area Promotional Products Association (CAPPA) has developed a $250 annual scholarship for one supplier and one distributor member for continuing education within the promotional products industry. The Marsha Jones Education Scholarship is named to honor Marsha Jones, MAS, with HALO/Lee Wayne Corporation (UPIC: LEEWAYNE), one of CAPPA’s founding members. Jones continues to serve on CAPPA’s board of directors as past president and advisor.

Diana Fay, Paula Coomer and Shawna Tickle have been hired as independent sales representatives for City of Industry, California, supplier Sweda Company, LLC (UPIC: SWEDA). Fay will serve Northern California and Nevada and is based in San Francisco. Coomer will represent Sweda in Minnesota and the Dakotas and is based in Minnesota. Tickle will represent Sweda in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho and will be based in Colorado.
David Friedman and Jack Friedman from Ad Specialty Sales will cover Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Puerto Rico for Stamford, Connecticut, supplier Jornik Manufacturing Corp. (UPIC: JORNIK). Mike Finlayson from M. Finlayson Marketing will be Jornik’s multi-line sales representative in Florida.
Jennifer Amaro has been named new account manager for the Great Lakes Area of Chicago, Illinois, supplier PINGLINE (UPIC: pingline).

R.S. Owens Donates Awards To “Dare To Dream” Program
Scott Siegel, MAS, president of Chicago, Illinois, supplier R.S. Owens & Co., Inc. (UPIC: RSOWENS), says his company donated 80 awards to Chicago-based Addison Foundation, supporting the "Dare to Dream" program, which challenges Latina teenage girls to pledge to continue their education, and set and realize personal goals.

PPAI’s Business Recovery Plan To Help Tennessee Companies
PPAI has implemented its Promotional Products Business Recovery Plan to help members of the promotional products community recovering from devastating losses from the recent flooding in Tennessee. Forty-two counties have been declared federal disaster areas and damage estimates for the area are $4.56 billion.

Connecticut Congressman Visits Prime Factory
Connecticut Congressman Jim Himes took a tour at Bridgeport, Connecticut, supplier Prime Resources Corp. (UPIC: PRIME) on Monday and discussed upcoming legislation with Rick Brenner, president and CEO of the company, and David S. Engel, MAS, president of Shelton, Connecticut, supplier Greystone International Products Corp. (UPIC: GREYSTON). Engel is a member of PPAI’s Government Relations Action Council.

Safe Harbor Rule Letters Due Saturday
PPAI is developing a case to protect the safe harbor rule for those in the promotional products industry who act as independent contractors. If you are an independent contractor, tell PPAI why you like being self-employed in less than 500 words. All entries will be eligible for a drawing and the winner will receive an iPad. Entries (both written and video) are due no later than May 15.
